Lookin' This World Over
|
By Dave Sharp
You know my name is Davey Sharp It is from Salford City I have come. I've been lookin' this world over Some up and down races I have run. Some days I get weary And some days I can hardly do no wrong. And as the good times are good So the hard times are hard And it's a wonder sometimes how I get along Lookin' This World Over.
I left upon a cargo ship And headed 'cross the great Atlantic Sea With fourteen days of thunder rain Ragin' so black I could not see. I barely heard the captain say, ''Now, two days in America you'll be.'' But it's a long, long way To San Francisco Bay With the rollin' of the decks beneath your feet Lookin' This World Over
High and Low High and Low Lookin' This World Over.
Up in the State of Colorado I saw mountains high and valleys low and long. And a blizzard wind that'll get you No matter if you're weak or you are strong. You know it sure is somethin' Just to sit and watch that Colorado run. As the water rolls through To the mighty ocean blue It's a shame if you should be movin' on Lookin' This World Over.
Back in the town of Liverpool I bought some whiskey my misery for to thaw. Some folks said Davey Sharp No more must you be travelin' so far. They said Liverpool is full of fame and riches But this meat I could not chaw. I'm rich in what I know I'm known by some I've seen And I seed everything that I have ever sawed. Lookin' This World Over.
And so I took me a good gal She said, ''San Diego is gonna be the place for you.'' She had diamonds in her hair And cried pretty tears of mornin' mountain dew. I met her on a Friday And by Saturday, well, she loved me the best. And now many are the days And many are the nights That I remember how the stars look in the West. Lookin' This World Over.
So it's farewell to you, Big Sir Fare thee well, for New York City I am bound. Five hundred miles of Texas And ahead 1,000 miles of desert ground. I swear before too long I will return to the place I love the most. Passed Mexico over the Ohio Ridin' on that high road to the Coast. Lookin' This World Over.
