a very dear friend and sweet person 02 June 2006
To all Alarm fans everywhere...

We were all saddened here at Dave Sharp.org to hear that Eddie MacDonald's former wife Sharon passed away peacefully in London yesterday evening. She and Eddie were very close and our hearts and prayers are with Eddie and Sharon's family at this difficult time. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Sharon was a wonderful, joyful person and in the Alarm family could always be relied upon the be a voice of reason and common sense. She had a very giving heart and nature which found expression in her work in the field of anti-vivisection. We are all very saddened and will miss greatly a very dear friend and sweet person.

Sharon's spirit will remain forever in our hearts and minds.

Decaturville Day Two 22 May 2006
So Saturday morning soon came around and the Travellers slowly began to rise after makin it through the folk filled acoustic hurricane thats been a blowin' our way since '59. There was a 'little kid on christmas mornin' anticipation about the events of the day.

The opportunity to see some extremely rare footage of Sharpy's very own moments in time lay in wait, but first up was the accordion rockin' of Booze'N'Daze. They didn't disappoint, delivering Homeless Child, New Age Eden and Love Magic from the Punks disc and chucking in Enlightenment and Rockin In The Free World in true ''we know what you lot want'' style.

B'n'D were followed by the video session - the imagery of Sharp and the crew deliverin some serious postage down at New York's Ludlow Street Cafe (Dave's first ever solo show) was purely magical. It gave a sense of understanding to the times that embraced the infancy of the Hard Travlin days, a new creation, a rising of a phoenix from the ashes of a musical majesty that had somehow become tattered and torn. Along with footage from Gathering 12, New York Earth Day in 92... there were some gems.

A 15 minute photo history of the solo days, to a soundtrack of Lookin This World Over & more, took us on a ride from that Ludlow Street show through to the recording of Hard Travelling, first encounters with the Barnstormers and on to the Kerry.
This mystery train delivered Davey back to the people, his transport to a courtroom beseiged by elders and folklore. A courtroom of truth?, of justice?, of questions and answers?
Certainly an interesting search for knowledge...was there ever any 'real' prospect of a Sharp/Peters writing project as announced by Mike from the Gathering stage just a handful of years ago?, what was the truth of the Jimmy Page experience?, so how did the Bands Reunited reunion come to be released to the fans and have the band members been recognised for their contribution? ,many many questions and to be fair some unexpected answers. But it has to be said there was one question asked which I think we all thought we knew the answer to...... but maybe we didn't .

Dave, if asked would you ever re-join The Alarm if asked? .............an ery moment of still descended ........''In a Heartbeat son, in a Heartbeat''.

So Decaturville was pannin out to be a crackin insight into Davey's world and as the evenin rolled in an education in musicality was 'bout to unfold.

Clova did a fine job of setting the scene, Martin's guitar and Aoife's fiddle in harmony with long time Sharp & Alarm fan Colin Bulloch up front.

Dave's current collaboration with the Deportees is an interesting return to a real mixed bag of musical talent. Before the Sharp stepped up, the guys took their chance to show the good folks what they're made of and stamped their own brand all over the vibe, with a deliverance of banjo, a tender hint of mandolin and laid back injection of stand up bass these guys were livin' in the love of the common people.

Sharp took to the stage that night, at home within an acoustic brotherhood that at least for one night would spread 'ole woody's gospel, and man did those guys deliver. The evenin was rounded off as Dave and the Deportees embraced our very own traveller John Ramsey onto the stage along with fiddle from Clova's Aoife McGarrigle. John's achievement in pulling Decaturville together was a big enough mountain to climb but with a little help from his friends climb it he did. What better way to bring this chapter to a close than to ''busk it with the best of 'em''

The clear message here folks is that when it comes to a performance from Dave Sharp, if you miss it you miss out.

Decturville Day One Report 20 May 2006
After months of anticipation, the first ever Dave Sharp 'trooper' weekend got underway last night. On a warm spring night, Glasgow's Attic Bar hosted an evening that, although beset by technical problems, saw the assembled fans supremely entertained.

Paul Heaton at DecaturvilleThe night kicked off with one of our own Paul Heaton on stage, acoustic guitar & voice. Although not a regular live performer, Paul gave an impressive performance, including a host of Sharp classics including Downtown America, Love Magic & New Age Eden.

Throughout the evening, Dave was wandering round the venue talking to the fans from across the UK and those that had travelled from the USA.

The sound system took a dislike to Booze'N'Daze. They tried gamely to battle on, starting their performance three times only to have the sound go 30 seconds in, ultimately meaning that they had to abandon their set. They have been rescheduled and will play on Saturday afternoon after Dave's Q & A instead. Their place was filled by some rare video footage, including Dave live at the Palamino from 1990, The Barnstormers live in 91 & Soul Co at The Gathering in 2004.

Dave Sharp, Friday at DecaturvilleDave and the trusty 1956 Martin took opened up with Willin' and never was the man more willin' to give his all for his weary travellers. So this first evenin of Decaturville was always meant to be an acoustic slot but we gotta tell you good souls that this performance was pure electric. The room at the Attic held an unspoken vibe, this acoustic community was comin together as Davey just kept banging out the salvos ...one hundred, two hundred. The pure and raw talent of the man never ceases to amaze as he held the crowd in the palm of his hand ceramoneously dedicating his tales of whisky drowned misery to the 'fellas from Liverpool'. So the soulful classics just kept a comin our way potentially peaked by the most rebel rousin', pistol packin', gut feelin' rendition of Hard Travellin' to ever have come our way. Saturday still to come....Psalm 2 from the book of Sharp....come join the congregation folks.
''Deportees sounding great'' + London show 18 May 2006
Just one day to go to Decaturville.

Dave is on route to Glasgow today to prepare, it's looking like a great weekend ahead.

Dave reports that the Deportees are sounding great and are going to rock the attic.
The Deportees line up is a world apart from the Soul Co & Hard Travellers rock & roll bands. The full line up is Rob Matheson - guitar, Doug Sparkes - mandolin, Rob Bowman - banjo and more, Nye Parsons - upright bass, Jamie Leighton - drums and of course Dave Sharp on lead guitar.

The Deportees performance will only be the climax of the weekend. Dave promises some surprises for Friday nights acoustic show and the Saturday afternoon video session will hold some treats, with Dave's former assistant 'Ma' Kelly having got together some real gems from her many years hard travellin'

As announced previously tickets will be available on the door.

We can confirm Dave's first London show for some time. He will perform at The Bedford in Balham on Wednesday 31st May. He will join three other acts on the bill of their weekly Acoustix night, a multi-artist showcase for lovers of the acoustic art, programmed to give a wonderful eclectic mix of styles, energies and line ups.

Entry is free and we would urge fans in London and surrounds to make the effort to support a venue which is doing great things in the live music arena.

Unfortunately Dave's show at The Anchor in Spalding scheduled for June 2nd has been cancelled. The venue has decided to pull out of all live music due to lack of support from their locals. This should act as a warning to all lovers of live music - support those that are putting themselves out to provide it, or you could lose it.
