Bob Bogle, Ventures’ Guitarist, Dies at 75 18 June 2009
Bob Bogle, lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock band The Ventures, known for 1960s instrumental hits like "Walk, Don't Run," has died at age 75.

He was co-founder of the American instrumental rock band, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

One of their biggest hits was the theme from popular television series 'Hawaii Five-O'.

The band sold millions of albums and heavily influenced other rock guitarists, including our own Dave Sharp.

In a statement Dave says "The Ventures were a massive influence on my electric playing.. Bob's style and spirit will live on forever"
Gigs, gigs, gigs 26 May 2009
Regular viewers of the tour dates page will have noticed that Dave has a whole raft of gigs coming up.

First up is a short tour of Scotland beginning later this week. On these shows Dave will be playing with Celtic musician and songwriter Davy Cowan. Davy has been acclaimed over the years for his work with Cult Highland Celtic Rock band Coinneach and has a big following in the highlands. Dave & Davy are currently holed up in Scotland putting together their set for the shows.

The dates for the Dave Sharp / Davy Cowan shows are as follows:
Thu 28 May - Inverness, Hootananny's
Fri 29 May - Ullapool, The Arch Inn
Sat 30 May - Invergordon, The Invergordon Arts Centre
Sun 31 May - Inverness, The Market Bar
Find out more about Davy Cowan at www.davycowan.com

Following that, Dave has a couple of festival shows in June.
The first is a rare return to the North East of England to play at the South Shields Amphitheatre on Saturday June 13th, where the show will be headlined by The Rats (formerly The Boomtown Rats).

The following Friday, June 19th, Dave returns to play as close to a hometown show as he can get. Although technically in Manchester, the suburb of Prestwich is just over the border from Dave's home in Salford, so Dave is delighted to have been asked to headline a mixed bill as part of the inaugural "Love Prestwich Festival". Also on the bill are new band ‘Antistar’ and Verne Griffiths kicks off with standup comedy. DJ Chilliman plays classics from Pink Floyd to Pixies to Peaches.

July sees Dave head out on tour again, this time supporting Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls of The Wonderstuff on four shows of their UK tour.
Fri 24 July - Southampton, The Joiners Arms
Mon 27 July - Aberdeen, Moshulu
Tue 28 July - Glasgow, Rockers
Wed 29 July - Edinburgh, The GRV

August Bank Holiday weekend sees two more festival shows.
The first is at the annual Colne Rhythm & Blues Festival in Lancashire where Dave will headline the Acoustic Stage on Friday 28th.
Dave then heads east to an outdoor show in the beautiful surrounds of Lincoln Castle on Saturday 29th where he will join the bill with From The Jam (featuring two thirds of the original and only line up of The Jam) and China Crisis (crossing paths with former Soul Co drummer Paul Burgess who will be with China Crisis for the show).

You can also expect more show's from the Roadrunners, a new band formed by Dave & Mike Sweeney of The Salford Jets, but we'll bring you the dates and more about the Roadrunners another time.

As usual, details of all shows can be found on the Tour Dates Page.

Dave Sharp's first solo album Hard Travellin' is scheduled to be re-released by EMI records on Feb 10th as a download.
Almost 20 years since its first release on IRS/EMI records Hard Travellin has become somewhat of a cult classic and, untill now, has been almost impossible to obtain.

To coincide with the EMI re-release of Hard Travellin' Dave Sharp's second album Downtown America will be made available for the first time in the UK.
Downtown America features a stunning group of musicians including Dave Grisholme and Larry Crane (John Mellencamp) Al Cooper (Bob Dylan) Chris Soulberg (Santana) and Prairie Prince (The Tubes)

The Ghost of Preacher Casey and album title track Downtown America are available now as singles to preview the album.
Downtown America has never before been released in the UK so we hope you take advantage of this opportunity to obtain your copy of what has been described by the American music press as Dave Sharp's "seminal album."

AOR join The Damned for S.O.P.H.I.E. 02 November 2008
AOR are pleased to confirm that they will be joining The Damned at "Make A Noise 2" in aid of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Sophie Lancaster FoundationThe alternative music community throughout the UK was shocked by the attack on Sophie & her boyfriend Robert in a local park in August 2007. Sophie died from the injuries sustained during the attack by a group of youths, Robert was left seriously injured. The only reason they were attacked was because they were "goths".

Make A Noise 2S.O.P.H.I.E. Make A Noise 2 will be held at Heywood Civic Centre, Lancashire on 26th November 2008. It follows on from the original Sophie Lancaster memorial concert organised by Sophie's mother Sylvia on 25th November 2007, what would have been Sophie's 21st birthday, where Sophie's friends & family celebrated her life. This year others will be able to join them and support the S.O.P.H.I.E. (Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred + Intolerance Everywhere) campaign.

Joining The Damned & AOR are two bands featuring friends of Sophie's - Ded Mole Crikit and Eustacia Vye.

The event will end at midnight with a minutes NOISE, to show we will not stay quiet about the death of Sophie and the violence that damages so many lives.

Tickets are £16 each available by calling the venue on 01706 368130 or 01706 624104.
Please book them early as they are limited to 500.
